Regional-Scale Groundwater Geoscience in Southern Ontario Open House
The OGSR Library recently exhibited a poster at the Regional-Scale Groundwater Geoscience in Southern Ontario Open House. The poster highlights the use of Library's data for groundwater research. All detailed well record information can be accessed from the OGSR Library databases with a membership. The 3D Geologic Model was also showcased at the open house. The regional model of the Paleozoic bedrock of southern Ontario is a collaboration by the
Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), Ontario Geological Survey (OGS), Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) and the OGSR Library. The next steps of this project will use the modelled formation layers generated from OGSR Library data to create a hydrostratigraphic model of Southern Ontario. This model represents one application of Oil, Gas, and Salt Resources Act (OGSRA) well data to protecting groundwater. Check out the link below to watch the model in action!

GeoConvention 2018, Calgary Alberta
The OGSR Library will be exhibiting with the OPI at the 2018 GeoConvention in Calgary, Alberta. The Library will also be presenting a talk at the conference on Tuesday May 8th showcasing 20 years of managing southern Ontario's petroleum data.
20 Years of Managing Ontario Petroleum Well Data in Trust
The management of Ontario petroleum well data by the Oil, Gas and Salt Resources (OGSR) Library is now in its 20th year and represents a rare case of an industry-funded petroleum data centre. Collection of oil well data in the Province occured shortly after the first hand-dug well of 1858. Government management of public petroleum well data was handed over to the industry to be maintained in trust in 1998. During its 20 years of operations the OGSR Library has prioritised the digitization and modernization of the data catalogue to provide maximum value to industry. In response to a strong digital catalogue, industry and government partners have engaged with the Library on more complex and innovative projects that would not have been possible otherwise. The Library has also engaged with data users outside of the traditional petroleum industry by highlighting the applicability of petroleum data to Universities, environmental consultants, and groundwater researchers. As exploration in the Province declines new uses for the data must be found to justify its preservation and improvement.

Come to the ESRI User Conference in London, Ontario to see the OGSR Library's GIS Technician Liz Sutherland give a talk on Building GIS Communities. Learn about the Library's initiative to promote and develop a network of support for GIS within the city of London.
Quick Tip: Making A Geologic Cross-Section
Using OGSR Library Well Data to Generate Sub-Surface Cross-Sections
If you are interested in making cross-sections of southern Ontario geology, the OGSR Library provides two methods for creating a cross-section to suit the needs of your research into Ontario's sub-surface.
If you are looking to make detailed cross-sections, geophysical logs provide information for high accuracy analysis. Geophysical logs are very reliable indicators for identifying geological formations and features within the subsurface. 20,430 geophysical well logs are managed by the Library and accessible to members. The Library has the tools to digitize geophysical logs and construct cross-section plots displaying multiple drill holes to connect each well by the corresponding geological
formation showing profile of the rock structure(s) beneath the surface. Digitizing of logs for cross sections are available upon request.
If you are looking to get a quick glance of the specific geological area you are looking at, check out the simple cross section tool on our website. Simple Cross sections are constructed on-the-fly using the form 7 picks from the wells our online database.
